jvision
I ran a 135 planted tank for over a year with an FX5 canister. IMO, a canister (or two) is the way to go if you're adding CO2. If you don't plan on CO2, then the cheapest filter is probably a sump system. Leon71
I run an FX5 on my 150gal malawi tank. No problems keeping up to an overstocked tank. I also have under-gravel-jets, so that might make a difference.
fish4fun
go with the sump....best bank for you buck and easiest to maintain.
t-man
Tight budget and if you don't have a overstocked tank, go with 2 Aquaclear 110 and a powerhead of some sort. I have these on all my tanks and they run forever and you can put all kinds of media in them.

BettaFishMommy
i concur on the Aquaclear 110's. and if you have the need to move a filter from the big tank to another, they are the easiest to move over!
snaggle
I had a AC 110 on my 150 but traded it for a an FX5 after about 6 months.
punman
It would also be helpful to know how many fish. Six vs sixty could make a difference in the filtering suggestions. Even the type of fish - 10 frontosas would be different from 10 cyprichromis.
