TheGr8Blade
I have been charged GST on my last 2 trips into Golds...Before that never. I didn't question it because the prices are still good. (and no I didn't pay with credit card).
wandj
I just picked mine up from my LFS. It was on sale from $400 down to $300. For a town that is famous for gouging folks, this price is not as bad as it could have been. I would never pay regular price for it. Now that I know it has been sold for $270 elsewhere. Not hooked up yet. Waiting for a day off. Good to know it is highly praised.
RD.
Here's a thread on CF about the FX5. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=105865
albert_dao
GST was never included in the price. Dennis paid for it all. This year, however, his GST bill worked out to some outrageous amount (enough to buy another store) so he decided to drop the NO GST bit. It's just getting too costly. Personally, it's a move I think he should have made four or five years ago since no one seemed to have anything but contempt for the policy (included in the price, tax evasion, drug front, secret pockets, etc). Believe it or not I think the strength of the Canuck buck is actually starting to see some price depression. Gone are the days of a 38% exchange rate, many anaysts are predicting a 90 cent CDN buck vs the green back. But, I don't want to start any debate on the pros and cons of a strong buck. But, from the consumers point of view, its great!

Before big als closed down, I was talking to some dumby there that was telling me all about how dennis is a druglord and ships drugs here and there and all this crap. I got a good laugh out of it. dunl
You meant sweat shop, right? It is probably a good move for Dennis, and I would DEFINATELY like to see him open another store. Anyway, the FX5. There weren't any left when Ryan (RDFISHGUY) and I got there, but he did score one from Pisces for $299 + tax. When we asked about price matching, the answer was really long-winded on the phone from the manager to the clerk, which translated into a "No." from the clerk. Oh well. Anyone, maybe RDFISHGUY will jump on in a couple of days here and give us a review on it.
RD.
I assisted Ryan in getting his hooked up last night, and while I've never been a big fan of canister filters this unit does appear to move a lot of water. For the price, I don't think that you can go too wrong. While it's nice to see someone building a canister filter that doesn't have white, or lime green hoses, that big honking 1950's style microphone intake screen is a bit unsightly. I think that Ryan used the term 'gay porn'. It will be interesting to see how this Hagen model holds up long term. BTW - if you have a 'mitch' tank, be prepared to modify the clips that hold the hoses, they need to be trimmed if you have any amount of glass bracing along the top outer edge of your tank. Toirtis
I assisted Ryan in getting hooked up last night...I've...been a big fan of ...1950's style...'gay porn'. Its amazing how a few chunks taken out of a paragraph can really change the subject. At any rate, the reason I have been talking to so many FX5 owners online is not just for that initial review, but I am also very curious on how the filters will be doing in 6, 12, 18 months, etc.
