Hello everyone. Recent convert to the fishy world--up until now, my critters have all had 4 legs. Moved here two years ago from southern interior of BC. Decided winter out here is so long, needed something "tropical" to look at indoors.

Started with a Betta last christmas, in a 2.5 gal home with 7.5 watt heater and Elite sponge filter. Happy Betta. Then, a 5 gal. for a couple of platies and a couple of cory cats. Well, one needs more room, now, doesn't one.

So, now a one month old 25 gal. cycled with media from 5 gal. and the platies. Took a week - I was amazed. Love the info gleaned from the net before I started!!

Platies back to store.

Slowly added fish I wanted -up to last one yesterday.

The two Cories--1.5" each

Flying Fox--2"

6 rasporas sold as Harlequin but are actually the smaller version--3/4 inch each

One two inch marble angel [after taking the first one back as he was both fish aggressive and people non-friendly]

My very happy now 2.5 inch Betta.

Lastly [YES I know the tank is not big enough at this point, but he is small for a long while] a Bala shark 2.5 "

Tank has kept good parameters, changing 20 to 25 % a week. Zero ammonia and nitrites, less than 10% nitrates.

Have 5 silk plants, a chunk of mopani wood, a siliconed together Inukshuk [about 4 " tall], and a clay pot in there, on small size gravel substrate. Everyone appears healthy, happy and hungry, and get along fine. Betta has proven himself a gentle soul as bettas go, and I will watch Angel closely. Only aggression at all is from the Flying Fox to the Bala--look too much alike, but is only short chases.

I know that is a ton for a hello--but I sometimes don't get around to posting much--so you get it all at once, lol, sorry.

Bonnie

Thanks all for the warm welcome. Yes, it does look like I am almost ready for a bigger tank, but best hold off a wee bit. I also have a combination horse trough/goldfish pond outside that two comets have tripled their size in this season, and my moor doubled over the summer. Lots of live food [insects], and horse dribblings, make for a good diet, believe me!!

The moor is now back indoors in his little barebottom 5 gallon for the winter, and very thankful. He will need a bigger tank for next winter, lol. The horse trough is heated to just above freezing all winter, so the comets do well.

Hope to eventually get to know some fellow Albertans who enjoy their aquatic pets.
