  1. The Blood Parrot is A new world fish. If you are getting this fish it will need different water conditions than the Africans to thrive, I would choose to either skip the Blood Parrot or reconsider going with Rift lake cichlids. There are some West Africans that live in similar water.
  2. Very nicely done I,m looking forward to seeing the finished product.
  3. I save my images to my computer, then upload them to photo bucket. From there you copy and paste the image to insert imageon your post. Here is the link http://photobucket.com/
  4. What camera does everyone use for their fish Photos and videos? And if you have used more than one which is your preferred camera. I use the Sony Cybershot 7.2 for both.I got a really good deal on it and it seems to work well for almost everything. The 3X zoom is a little smaller than I'd like but all in all it is a great camera.
  5. This my first attempt at video, I moved these 2 into my 75g tank yesterday.
  6. Sometimes if you separate them for a while and then reintroduce them they will spawn again. And doing a 30 to 50% water change can bring on breeding. Do you buffer your ph? This also affects there breeding.
  7. Well it is as I figured the eggs hatched but I don't think any fry survived as the parents are no longer gaurding their end of the tank and are back to being nonaggressive. but I will be watching to see if they spawn again and try to be more prepared for it.
  8. Did a 10% w/c yesterday, what i've read on cichlids is w/c w/c w/c and some up to 50%
  9. I noticed that tonight but they are moving them to several places at a time but on the same plant. It is interesting to watch.
  10. One of my Angel laid eggs either Friday or Saturday, and some of the eggs are hatching. But since then she has laid more eggs is this normal? if it is how long will she keep laying eggs for?
  11. Way to go with the gouramis
  12. The tails are starting to show this morning.
  13. The big problem with this is if one item trips the gfi everything shuts down
  14. Yes cinder blocks will workbut make sure everything is perfectly level first. Also cussion your tank between the cinder block and the tank bottom. Check out the thread in do it yourself on building a stand for a 253g tank.
  15. how long have the hoses been sitting unused? Chances are that what ever killed your Festae would have died in the stagnant water in the hoses without a host. The crud from the hoses is a normal buildup of slime that ocurs over time and when dried out flakes off the inside.
  16. Running around 79 degrees. Are they like other cichlids where the temp affects the gender of the hatch?
  17. Any time. I'm always thinking of things to try on a small budget.
  18. You could put some water from your tank in a bucket add salt and give your fish a bath in it same idea as a hospital tank.
  19. My kribs spawned a while ago but did not succeed with the hatching. I will be trying again soon though.
  20. I finaly got my 75g tank working. The tank was brand new with shipping damage, I put a new end in it. The stand is constructed from parts of old desks from work. The substrate 3 22kg bags of sand from Home Building Products $4.89 each. I cycled the tank for a week using 25% water from w/c from other tanks filled up with new water and an old noisy A/C 500 with Scotch-Brite pads for media. The final results 1 piece of vilyl eavestrough with a 4' flourescent fixture that was kicking around, a new 200w heater from Walmart, glass top from my stock of jewelry store glassand piano hinges but forgot to put handles on, and some plants and fish moved in from my other tanks. Not counting fish and plants this cost me just over $100. Plus a considerable amount of elbow grease.
  21. I think so my ph is around 6.7 and they seem to like it
  22. I will have to do this. Thanx for the info people
  23. Today it looks like the eggs are getting larger. How long do they usualy take to hatch?
