  1. I currently have my swordtail fry in a 29 gallon tank. I want to move my shellies into that tank so they can have some sand to play in. if I move the fry to a 5 gallon will it hurt them? There is about 25 of them and they are 2 months old and still kinda small. Around 1 cm long. If I don't put them in the 5g I have to put them in the 60g with the adults & some of them still looks small enough to fit in the adults mouths.
  2. I have a book called The Betta Handbook Robert J. Goldstein, Ph.D. You could have it free. I could mail it. Just pm me.
  3. I made that mistake too! The pictures look good other than that though.

    Hello!

    Welcome! Local is great!
  5. My favorite LFS, passes all of those tests everytime I go there! It's somewhere around 51st. It is a small store and such a treat to go there. Thanks for the tips Sue! That article cemented why I love to go to my favorite store!
  6. Pretty! I love pictures of tanks! Love the plants!
  7. I have developed a problem with some algae growing in the sand , it is impossible to vacume up most of it... I have DIY co2 and I am half dosing with liquid fertilizer the tank houses 3 apistos and several different plants... I dont want to put in a pleco because I am trying to get some fry out of this group... Does anyone have any suggestions? "I dont want to put in a pleco because I am trying to get some fry out of this group..." What does this mean? Is my pleco eating my German ram's eggs while they sleep and that is why I have no babies? They seem to put on the breeding colours every 2 weeks or so, but I never see any little ones.
  8. Fabulous shellie you have there. The other ones are pretty too but I do not know anything about them. I really like the first picture.
  9. Pics not bad! Better than what I submitted for the aquarium Beautiful contest fir ACE. Apistos are so cute! I need to get some!
  10. I would use a spatula to crush them up against the glass. You can kill a lot of them all at once and the fish get fed!
  11. Welcome to Alberta Aquatica!
  12. That's great to hear Nick. I was hoping they would learn. Crossing my fingers and hoping for the best for you!
  13. The shellies have been quite peaceful. Especially toward each other. They hang out all of the time in very close proximity. I do not know what it means but they sometimes take turns going in and out of a shell.
  14. I want to put my limia nigrofasciata, herotilapia multispinosa, and lamprologus ocellatus (I think that is what they are I got them from Tanker at the auction) together in my 29 gallon tank. I was planning on a black sand substrate as the shellies do not like my gravel. Will any of them be too aggressive? Oh there is a breeding trio of the limia, two of the shellies and ten of the rainbows.
  15. So pretty. You make the saltwater nano seem so easy.
  16. Welcome to the forum!
  17. I can't get the little screen thing off of my tap to be able to screw in the pyhton thingie. Any ideas? The screen thingie is called "the faucet's aerator" in the instructions. Edit: I will clarify the situation. The aerator spins easily but does not come off. Man, I am not a "handy" kind of person at all. I also do not own any pliers.

  19. Kittens are fantastic. I love the way they turn into cats. Have fun with your new friend.
  20. The problem with conflicting opinions is that they are based on experience and everyone's experience is different. Bettas can range from semi-calm to extremely aggressive. I had a betta that would attack snails until they all died. My betta now only notices things if they swim past him. I think it comes down to listening to other's experience and weighing what you are willing to lose. If you don't mind losing a tetra or two I would say go for it. Perhaps getting bigger tetras would help? They may look less "bite sized". Many people have told me that bettas are less aggressive to fiah that look less like another betta.
  21. That sucks. Hope things get better.
