    kick frame?

Cool, thanks for the replies. Skinless....any description or pics of how you modified it? :hey:
  3. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/diy_stand.php Looking to whip up a quick one of these, but what exactly is the "kick frame", and where does it go? Thanks.
  4. Nice. Figure out what you're going to do with the sagittae yet?
  5. Whoo-hoo! You need to set up a high speed "mantis cam" for him.
  6. Wicked Tim. Get as many shots and vids as you can of it.
  7. Tim, chat on the phone with him. Like Kyle mentioned, having someone like that"owe" you a favour, would be a nice catch. I'm sure he's not thinking he's going to get it for nothing....maybe he's got some cool ones for trade, and by the time you arrange to get it to him, you've already had an incredibly rare mantis for a while, right?
  8. Multi fry - finally! That's awesome Kyle.
  9. That's where you're probably wrong. I bet Nick had two convicts of the same gender and actually managed to get them to breed.
  10. Malawi blue crabs - no idea on what they are like for a clean up crew, but definately different.
  11. I didn't move the post, but maybe I can shed some light. The post is titled "females holding", and you're talking about the breeding progress of your pair. This, now, is the correct forum for your post, as the general idea or topic is breeding. If you have a specific question about this type of cichlid, as opposed to breeding, it would be appropriate to put into the cichlid forum. Hope that helps. :smokey:
  12. The liverock provides the beneficial bacteria and organisms, the base rock will not. The mantis will not smash a cave into the baserock; rather, he will dig a hole underneath it for a cave as that is easier to do. If you pick your piece of liverock correctly with all kinds of cavities, he'll find a cave in it and simply rearrange a few corners on it at the most.
  13. It's a mantis, not a bulldozer. The live rock will be fine.
  14. I really don't have time to post for each of the daily feeders. :smokey:
  15. Neil, your picture taking skills have certainly improved a lot over the past couple of years - wish I could take shots like these.
  16. Stop serving mushrooms for supper.

    Acei fry

Larger ones may pick off the smallest ones (which is better than a whole larger batch eating an entire smaller batch). Depends on the tank too...I stock tanks with different sized fry heavily with rock and cover. Gives them time to grow before being eaten.
  20. Congratulations! Excellent choice.
  21. Thanks guys for the replies. Just getting back to this, and hoping to start working on it tomorrow again. The top of the tank on the stand is 54 inches high, approximately where the water will have to be pumped to when it is discharged. As for what was on the tank before, let's completely forget that and plumb it right this time. Bottom line is the pipe from the inlet to the sump was to big for the downflow, resulting in huge noise. So, back to the beginning. I have a 3" hole drilled in the glass 8.5" below the top, and a 900gph pump going in below in the sump. Pump to top of tank is 54inches high, give or take a few. To connect on both sides of the glass hole, I will need some way to reduce the area down to probably 1.5" - seems to be a normal size. What different ways could I do this? I think once it is reduced, everything else on both sides of the reduction will become quite easy to do.
  22. Again, how about the stocking levels? How heavily stocked was it BEFORE you added thejuvies, and how many of them did you add? Fish sizes? I'm thinking the combined intro of the juvies with the above factors probably created a snowball effect.
