  1. I feed the 10 I have in a colony NLS, as far as breeding, they are just starting, and they tend to hide in the rocks I provided, so I don't know exactly what they are up to. Blaine I will keep you advised.
  2. This is Mama and her "little family". She spit them out almost 2 weeks ago. For the first few days after spitting, she would gather them all up in her mouth again for the night, or when I went to the basement to look at her. As the fry grew older she could fit fewer and fewer in her mouth, each night but she still trys. She has dug her self a cave under the sponge filter and seems content to live in the little 10 gallon tank with her kids forever. She eats along with the fry and everyone is as happy as can be. I will attempt to move them into a 20 gallon next week. This is the first malawi that I have seen, who is this dedicated to the kids. And because I don't want to disturb the family there is lots of algae and crap all over everything which made for this crappy picture. PS I have stopped counting at 50 fry, I can't get them all in one picture.
  3. I lost my crayfish last week at the office, just try looking for him in 20 offices and warehouse over 100,000 square feet. There has been speculation that the cleaning crew took him home and ate him, or just threw him out when they found him on the floor, I personally doubt this because there are all kinds of things on the floor that they never manage to pick up. Canadbis and I ransacked all nearby offices, no luck. Anyway I had to tell 80 plus staff to be on the look-out or smell-out by now, for Mr Pinchey. I also got 2 ransom notes and lots of condolences. WHY MR. PINCHEY ???? WHY?
  4. Here he is, at first I thought you had him frozen which I thought couldn't be good, but it is just the picture.
  5. The severums need an area they can look after with a flat rock to put their eggs on. I wouldn't expect anything from them unless they are very lucky. Like Kyle says sexing yellow labs and pseudotropheus socolofi is hard, usually I can tell mine apart because I always seem to have one of the females of each carrying. The blues didn't start breeding until they were about 4 inches, but the labs will start at less than 2 inches. Right now as I speak all 3 of my yellow lab females are carrying and at least on the blues.
  6. Call Rodsboy in Edmonton and see if he still has the CAVE!!!! :banned:
  7. Take most of the water out of one of your basement tanks and grow dope till the Police come to your house. You just show the Cops the tanks you have in your livingroom and offer to show them more, but they say,"well that explains the power usage,"and leave. After that, it's all good.
  8. I would go with Dwayne (punman), I thought as you did Mighty Prawn to go with the math and up the wattage. I have a 90 with 2 200 watt heaters and they are really hardly working. I have also seen what happens when a heater runs away (stays on) I put a 200 watt defective heater in 5 gal. of water and it literally brought the water to a boil, I had it in a 25 gal and it was a good thing I check my tanks because the the thermometer was off the scale. There is nothing wrong with redundant heating units in your tank as long as one of them staying on won't turn your tank of fish into fish soup. So unless you live in an igloo I would heed what people are telling you about "real life tanks and heating them." If you want to buy four heaters when 2 + 1 on the shelf in case one fails would do the job, then in the end it's whatever floats your boat. But NOONE is trying to mislead you, they are simply giving you more real world knowledge so that you will make an informed decision. Besides trying to adjust 4 heaters would drive you nuts.

  10. I can if the water pressures good, suck water up to the first floor with mine from the basement, and my house has a water pressure limiter. Thats why I thought the venturi on hers was blocked . What she is doing is siphoning, not drawing the water out.
  11. LOL and I posted it beginning of December under Reef and Inverts as Who's the Predator?. And the winner is........LOL
  12. Could they be Zaire as well, for sure they are not Gombi, based on the fact the stripes don't go all the way around. Does anyone know whether these 2 will crossbreed because I have both types in my colony but the two seem to stay in their own groups. Nice pictures BTW.
  13. You may have a problem that I have seen before. 1. You know the part you twist to open when you put it into suction mode, the blue bell shaped thingy on the bottom. 2. Notice that there are a couple of screws holding this piece onto the rest of the unit. 3. Remove the screws and take the bell shaped piece off. 4. Look through the unit through the end you just took the piece off of. 5. You should see a 1/4 inch hole, if there is no hole or the hole appears to be covered over with plastic, poke the screwdriver through it to open up the hole. It may sound confusing but you will see what I mean when you are there. There is a problem with plastic flashing remaining in the unit, partially blocking the venturi. If you clear that hole you should be able to drain Glenmore reservoir. I will try to find a picture. H
  14. Boy talk about some gruesome water changes, and I thought 10 inch pleco poop was bad. Truly a "Fish" family.
  15. I wonder if you were to attach a piece of lexan to the front of your 90, the glass is what 3/8 inch which is hard to break anyway. Now would the lexan keep the glass from shattering if they threw their toys at it? Put a canopy with child proof features on it, not that they would be able to lift a canopy whose lid is 4 feet off the ground anyway. As far as teaching 2 year olds to respect animals and not intentionally or unintentionally hurt them, I don't think you would get the message through, to any lasting degree at that age. I think it would be easier to plan for the worst they could do and prevent them from doing it.
  16. Or hold them up and spray paint them.
  17. You can always use this method, the trick is knowing when they need to go and matching the water parameters.
  18. Then theres Kevin with his spawning "right under his nose. How do the fish stay wet? Under his nose is his mouth, does that mean Kevin is a mouth brooder? Or a moustache brooder or upper lip brooder? We have it all wrong trying to breed them in Aquariums. Ok I'll stop now, some days are tougher than others. I have tried the solitary 10 gal. tank with pvc pipe I have tried a heavily planted tank. I have tried everything other than full moon naked dancing, you know they have laws about that? I was told the age of the fish had something to do with it. Guess I will wait for the wisdom of Algae Farmer. Until then, let's keep a stiff upper lip.... and put a couple of BNs on it.

    Hey AA

Welcome, and soon enough you will be part of Red Deer! Only if you run out of gas on the way to Calgary.
  20. When your wife b*tches about all the tanks and all the humidty and all the expense, and when she walks away you start rubbing the tank you are standing next to, and saying," No, she didn't mean what she says, you know its you and me together forever, don't worry about what she said," all the while making soft cooing noises to your fish.
  21. I got six from my little yellow labs first time and about 20 the next. My red zebra is quite the mom. I have had her in a 10 gal. for a week now. When you sneak up on her all the babies are out and babies and mom are eating. But when I turn on the lights or make noise, all the little guys get back in her mouth and there she sits looking at me with this huge bulge in her throat saying to me. "Go away I am still holding." I am just wondering how much longer she can keep this act of hers going. I have seen nyererei do this for a day or so but a week.LOL
  22. Mine and the ones that Ron gave me haven't made babies yet. I don't think he has any more.
