  1. :welcome: Welcome to Alberta Aquatica!
  2. I put half an NLS sinking wafer in with my shrimp and both they and the snails fight over it. They love it!
  3. Nature's Corner here in Edmonton also carries laterite (I think I saw 2 different sizes when I was there).
  4. :welcome: Welcome to Alberta Aquatica!!
  5. I'll give a shot to questions 2 and 3. #2 Here is a great website that explains fishless cycling. #3 BioSpira is live bacteria; however, if it has not been properly stored and used immediately the bacteria die. You are better off to get some used media or gravel from someone with an established tank. It will be cheaper and easier to get hold of. Great questions and good luck.
  6. Looks good, Lance, more pictures when it fills in - OK.
  7. Thank you very much everyone! That means I have 1 very happy male (or perhaps tired :smokey: ) and 4 females.
  8. Congratulations. According to www.petshrimp.com American Glass Shrimp (ghost shrimp) go through a short planktonic stage before metamorphosing into small shrimp. It is important that they have micro-food items, so older aquariums with lots of mulm and decomposing plant leaves on the ground are important to make sure microorganisms can be found in the water column. You could probably also do this with finely ground up fish food mixed with water (or First Bites and water). You will need to be careful though because that makes a mess real quick and won't work well if you have an filtration system on the tank (other than a sponge filter). Good luck and let us know how it goes.
  9. :welcome: Welcome to the forum! This is such a rewarding (and sometimes frustrating) hobby, but I love it!!

  17. :welcome: Welcome to the place where fish addiction runs wild .
  18. I found Crystal Glass to be a good price and very helpful for getting glass cut.
  19. Mail Order Pet Supplies (www.mops.ca) has laterite at great prices and their shipping rates are very reasonable.
  20. I think that even if they didn't eat them, they would certainly harass the other bottom dwellers.
  21. :welcome: Welcome to AA! This is a great bunch of people - even though Edmonton does have the better hockey team :smokey: (don't you just love competition!)
  22. :welcome: Welcome to AA!! Good luck with moving the tank.
  23. Was the tank fully cycled? Small shrimp are very sensitive to nitrites and nitrates.
  24. What a gorgeous fish!! Just don't tell Captain Insaino, he has enough of an ego already :smokey:
