do you have nerite snails? they put tons of little white eggs on the glass too.

Hey Heff, I would prob get another type of snail if I were you. I had two of the little nerite buggers in my 90gal and they do lay a lot of eggs on the glass, they keep them within 2 inches of the substrate, but they are a pain to remove. There is always this little white ring left even after you take the eggs off. Took me forever to figure what the hell they were, but now that I know, they are gonzo!

It shouldn't be the SAE or the L46, I have both in a heavily planted tank and have no signs of eaten plants!

Personally I would add a group of Calvus. They are far and away my favorite tang fish, and should get along well with a group of cyprichromis.

Quick update: I left the calvus shell in main tank for a few days, then moved it (without female) to a floating nursery without actually seeing any eggs, I just noticed that when the female ventured out she seemed much smaller in the belly. Yesterday I finally noticed some wigglers comming out of the shell and hanging around in the floating nursery, they look so strange, my girlfriend says they look like little sperm . I wish I had my camera to take some pics . The plan is to move them to a 10gal tank once the yolk is used up. I'll keep you posted. DK

The little zebras are doing great!, but the 3 I had were looking lonely so I went out and got 3 more!! (Don't tell my girlfriend, she will KILL ME :guns: ) I want to get some new pictures, but my camera now refuses to turn on nothing like spending $500 to have a camera that works for two months. God knows how long it going to take to get it repaired, but I will post some more pics when it's fixed.

Well my tang tank has begun to go crazy, my leleupi, black calvus, and cyprichromis have all begun breeding. The crypichromis spit out/ swallowed her eggs after the first attempt, but I have a feeling more will be comming soon. The calvus are guarding a shell and am pretty sure they bred yesterday. The leleupis are holed up in the texas holey rock guarding it like mad, I can't see into their cave to see the babies, but I know they are in there. With that being said I have a few questions for anyone with experience breeding these fish: 1) Should I move the calvus shell into a new 10gal tank, or should I move it to a floating nursery? and around what day should I move it? I have read day 4 is a good time? 2) I have heard it is easy to stress the cyprichromis by moving her, so same question as above: should I put her into a floating nursery to spit or should I move her to her own tank to spit? I have no experience with stripping and would like to avoid that if at all possible. Does 18 days seem like a reasonable time to move her? There is no way for me to get to the leleupis without ripping apart the tank, so I think they will become food for everyone. Thanks in advance for any help

Thanks again for the comments guys . Honestly I haven't ever tried to vac this gravel, I keep lots of plants in both my tanks that have this substrate and let them do the cleaning. I have never had the nitrates get above 10 in either tank so never felt the need to vac. Hard to say how aggressive they are, and how they would fair against cichlids. Personally I would not put cichlids in a tank with these guys, they are too valuable to risk any kind of complication. They do already squabble amongst themselves at this size, they shove each other out of thier own little niches, but nothing serious.

Thanks for the comments guys These are by far the best looking fish I have had to date! It was a real stress test when I put them in the tank, think it took me a good hour to uncross my fingers. A pair would be fantastic, you can't see in the pictures, but I did get 3 of them so Im thinking one male and two females would be nice........ Going to be a long time before I find out though, think it's at least two year before these guys will even think of breeding. Hehe I like the idea Oneiroid, if only I could convince the government to pay me to work on zebra pleco's.... I have heard the same as you BlackMumba, is a shame whats happening to their habitat. Hopefully someone can figure out a way to help them recover.

Is there any way a water change could have done it? I have noticed my petricolas are extremely sensitive to water changes, even when the water temp/ph is matched.

That is an awesome story Derek I honestly laughed out loud at "Three days ago, I found my blind one eyed poor excuse of a wild caught male stuck to the powerhead ind the tank. Again, I was crushed." Sorry if it wasn't meant to be funny, haha. When I put 1" calvus in with my 3" calvus the larger one stalked the 1 inch ones down and ate them one at a time, hence I would suggest moving the shell out of the tank I have also read on other forums that the parents will more than likely eat their own fry. Seems around 14 days is the ideal time to move the babies out of the tank, but this is comming from what I have read, not what I have tried. Maybe send Fairdeal a message, he seems to have breeding calvus down to an art. HTH, and thanks for the laugh. DK

Thanks Degrassi and slough shark no, not really, the SAE sticks mainly to the plants and rocks. The pleco's and oto's keep the glass fairly clean, but I still have to mag clean it once in awhile.

Looks wise I would definately go with the Blue Phantom, that pleco looks amazing. In regards to keeping the tank clean I would have to go with the SAE, that guy is constantly cleaning the plants and rocks.
