  1. For fish stores there are your fresh and saltwater places. Fresh Only: Natures Corner Store Fresh and Salt: Big Al's Aquagiant Aquarium Illusions Aquarium Central Salt Only: Marine Aquaria Red Coral Aquarium of Edmonton
  2. Could just be a little bit of transfer shock (I've had fish floor/sink dive plenty of times during tank transfers) and usually within a day they are back to normal. I would just let him be. By tomorrow he should be fine and up and begging at the top for food.
  3. I just get it wet and razor blade it. That seems to work well for me.
  4. Oh, your the arsehole who outbid me on those If they have some babies for you hit me up.
  5. It was a good auction, better than I was expecting! I ended up with a group of M.maccullochi, a pair of Albino Guppies and 3 of those C120 cories. I really wanted that big flash pleco but I kind of forgot about it and left before it went up for bid. Does anyone know how much it went for ?
  6. ITS A MIRACLE !! So I went to go scoop my little buddy out of the tank so I could bury him, however something wasn't quite right. Instead of floating near the bottom, he was perched alive and fairly well on top of his island ! Literally, he went from ashy grey, not breathing, stiff and being blown around in the current (aka dead), to fully alive again. Its quite literally a miracle. I've got some meds in his water that always seem to perk him up, and hopefully he will still be around for a few more years at least (although I could go with less dying on occasion)
  7. I knew it was near, but I was hoping he would last a bit longer... Today I lost my much loved little Mudskipper. Although I never really named him, he was certainly one of my favourite fish. I picked him up about 3-4 years ago, and at the time he was already full sized, so its no surprise that he was growing old. He had been showing symptoms too. Starting to lose his balance and sit "funny" (in an "L" shape looking at him above) and he would have seizure type episodes once and a while. He also battled through a bad sickness earlier this year but he pulled through it. We've been through a lot together, from him jumping at the front for me to handfeed him crickets and pellets, to me cradling him in my hand to make sure he could take gasps of air during his "episodes" at the end of his life. His desire for exotic foods had dwindled too, before he would decimate pellets, demolish crickets, much on bloodworms, and was quite the skilful hunter of minnows. Towards the end he still enjoyed pellets, mysis, and bloodworms but lost his taste for living flesh. Last night he had a big delightful meal of shrimp pellets, and was settled onto his island. This afternoon he was down on the bottom of his tank having another episode. Sadly, although he returned to a normal state, this episode would be his last. He passed away peacefully with a fully belly earlier today. R.I.P little buddy I'll try and find some more pictures of him and set up a little photo memorial.
  8. *sigh*, well the last female is hanging on, the white has spread along her second dorsal and a bit more on her mouth, and one of her pectorals is stopped working, just sticking out to the side. I hope she makes it. Oh well, if worst comes to worst I am headed down to San Diego later this summer so might just bring a few females back with me.
  9. Once, again, thank you Ric !! As it stands, I am down to just one female, the 2nd one died leaving me with just the one. I have them in a 30 gallon with some dicus and glass catfish, so I'm assuming that the water quality is fairly good, and I have a separate 10 gallon tank set up and running now full of fresh new water that I can place them in at a moments notice. At current they are in a 30 gallon tank with 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt and the recommended dosage of melafix. O.k, so lets see about the bag...they were in it for about 4-5 hours if I have to guess. Water was blue, probably with "bag-buddy" or something. Other then that it looked alright. There was about 2/3 to 1 cup of water in the bag. The males look fine, the one only has a little bit of white on the tips of his tail fin, but the last female is not so hot, she is floating at the surface with clamped fins and fast breathing. She has a red spot on her caudal peduncle, and a little bit of wear on her second dorsal and mouth.
  10. Herm, all this info is very helpful !! I will separate the rainbows from the rest of the fish, it will make everything easier. Hopefully they will pull through this, cause I really wanted to breed these guys. Not to sure where I could find some more females if they died either.
  11. Thanks Ric !! Now I have a question. I have these rainbows in with some other fish, should I pull the rainbows and treat them in their own tank, or should I treat the whole tank ?? All the other fish look fine. Also, for sea salt, would marine salt work ?? Like the stuff for marine aquariums ??
  12. Salt I can do. Also its not velvet. I am all to well acquainted with that hellish plague of fish-death, and this looks quite different.
  13. Here are some crappy pictures of the most affected fish. The blurry one is closest to the color in real life.
  14. So I got some Melanotaenia ogilbyi yesterday, acclimated them, and popped them into their tank. They looked fine, ate, and towards the end of the night one of the males was flashing his colors and looking perfect. This morning, things are not so hot. Both of the females have some sort of nasty fungus/bacteria, and one of the males has a little bit on his tail fin tips. The females are not eating. I have melafix in the water right now, is there anything else I can do for them ?? I really don;t want to loose these, especially my only two females.
  15. So I just got back from Vancouver today with a box full of fish as my checked baggage I have the following fine fish added to the collection now : 5x Altum Cories (Corydoras loretoensis, I think) 2x Giant Oto's (Hypoptopoma sp.) 1x Motoro Stingray hybrid 1x little tiny baby Green Myleus Pictures to come shortly.
  16. In reply to your question, my tank is 33 gallons and I never find much of a salinity drop when i top up with pure fresh water. It takes about 5 gallons of FW to make a difference in salinity for me. I agree with Jason, perhaps a nasty bubble of gas came out of your sandbed ??
  17. The only thing I feed my RTC/TSN hybrid is those nutrafin sinking shrimp pellets. He also eats koi pellets. I never really offered him any other options, I just added in some pellets right before I turned off the tank lights and he figured out what to do with them pretty quickly. He's grown from about 3-ish inches to roughly 6-8 inches over the past 9 months or so. I'm sure he could be bigger but I keep him in a coldwater tank and I'm sure that doesn't help anything...I also only feed every couple of days.
  18. Head grows bigger and splits into new branches.
  19. Nice pictures !! Also ya ,them Crayfish can go at it for quite some time.
  20. I've kept these guys several times. They love oxygen rich water ,and they love strong current even more. I often had issues with mine swimming up my HOB filters output area if they could reach them ,or swimming into filter tubing. Very silly little fish. Also I find cold water is very helpful. Without it I've had them survive, but never thrive. Also I've kept both singles and pairs ,and never really seen a difference in behavior. They don't make the best algae eaters ,prefering flakes/pellets/worms/etc to plant matter ,but they would nibble at algae time to time. Also ,how big is your tank ??
  21. I agree. I have an aquaclear that is at least 12 years old and it still works like a charm. Always good to a couple on hand ,IMO.
  22. Theres a fellow named Kelly ,he owns a place called The Reef Shoppe. Hes located out in Lloydminster ,however I'm fairly sure that he delivers/ships to Calgary. He is the go to guy (in my opinion at least) for anything saltwater thats a little more difficult to find. Just ask him ,and theres a good chance he can bring it in. An A+ guy to deal with over all. Also if you do end up going with him ,it never hurts to mention that Scott (the one that bothered him about the Brotulina so much) reccomended him :P Also Groupers. And large Angels. Those do well with sharks. Polleni Groupers come to mind...
  23. Meh ,sorry about not reading the post above mine on when the columbian stuff is coming in :P
  24. Dandy. When abouts is the Columbian order supposed to be coming in ??
