  1. He is beautiful , no doubt. I do like the full look of the HM or even OHM . The orchid strain I believe is seen by the series of spots , the rose tail is lovely too with the scalloped fringe. When it comes to bettas I likes'em purdy . ;D
  2. Can be , but also to observe truly wild behaviors .
  3. Wild specimens are the "originals", strongest genes etc.
  4. Mature females can definitely look like that . Under the white stripe there is yellow. The males will almost be black at the bottom . Their white stripe will almost look green . That is a mature female for sure. I suspect the male-like coloring is to try to hide herself while she is holding .
  5. Thanks BM, I just may do that . If you look for "Preecha" as a seller on Aquabid and other selling sites you'll see some of the specimens he has . I just love the black orchid strains. The solid color variants are the others I really like . I'm not so fond of the mixed colors , although beautiful . Just 2 examples of what I like. http://www.aquabid.com/cgi-bin/auction/auc...&1234424538 http://www.aquabid.com/cgi-bin/auction/auc...&1234971194
  6. OB is a gene , Orange Blotch. at least one of the parents would have to carry the gene.
  7. :welcome: to AA What kind of fish did you used to keep? You may have some insight/experience that you could share too . We would love to see your viv and frogs, pics are popular here . Sue
  8. My little girl ( thank you Jay) and my new boy (thank you Ryan) have been busy . Yesturday eggs were being defended. Mom , Dad and eggs
  9. If you go with several species you'll run into survival of the fittest . Ensure you have more hiding places than fish . The blues IMO are the most eye catching especially when paired with the yellows. I started with a few of everything but have narrowed mine down to yellow/blues/blacks. It's less confusing for the eye when you sit in front of your tank to observe them .
  10. This meeting will be a lot of fun and interesting . There are raffles too so you never know what you'll go home with , could be fish food , a filter or even neat fish . I hope to see everyone there .
  11. Honestly you are too kind . We could always hold a mini auction here as there are several here, me included, who would like to buy them . How many do you have? After the agreed upon date of the original pick up everything else is imposing on you . Have they paid for the fish or did you? If you did don't even think twice about it, they are yours and you needn't even try to contact the person . If you have already let them know 'their" fish is here and ready to go and they still haven't come, too bad , their loss. You are not expected to help them out any further, I think the "babysitting" fee has paid for them.
  12. Please bring loads of loonies / toonies ans fives. People tend to stop by the ATM on their way and it is difficult for the workers to break that many $20s.
  13. You may have to set them up by themselves. How big is your tank? How many and types of other fish? planted/decorated? Where did you find these guys?
  14. IMO those traps are not so helpful . I found live bearers held on too long waiting until it was safe to drop. In the traps this never happened and so they held way too long . A heavily planted tank made things much better. The moms torpedoed their fry out into the foliage and the babies fended for themselves very well.
  15. I really like him , he's a great fish .

  17. I'd love to bring in some fancy bettas from Preecha but with Katherine MIA I don't know if it'll be possible. Anyone have any insight? Sue
  18. All of my S/A like to re-arrange their decor. They love to dig and make pits. It can be a lot of fun to watch them do their thing .
  19. It is quite normal for fish to scavenge like that . Keep your water very clean and yes epson salts are a laxative but I would have no idea how to dose it or if it could cause more problems than it solves. Perhaps just observe the fish closely for the next few days, I don't suspect you'll get any problems.
  20. pleco-LDA08 Ancistrus sp.MATO-GROSSO http://www.jjphoto.dk/fish_archive/aquariu...strus_claro.htm http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/speci...?species_id=152
  21. I'm thinking stop feeding. change the water out, do a good cleaning of the gravel . Something other than just algea is going on . How deep is this tank ?
