  1. SO you just mash up the garlic and throw it in the tank? do the fish actually like it? I have heard of putting garlic into homemade foods but never just fed alone
  2. Glad you found it too
  3. Cool pic. I had never really seen a pic of them that didnt' show them magnafied. They are a lot bigger then i thought. Thankfully i have never had them

    Hello

Where are you from? I know of someone that is breeding bettas here in edmonton that may be able to help you.
  5. If you select your species right you can have a mixed tank. I have Mbuna with haps and they all get along fine. I did have peacocks in the tank with them before but they did get picked on and had to be removed. Alot also depends on the fish's personality. But if you choose some of the less aggresive species of mbuna they can do ok living with haps.
  6. There is Mbuna here in edmonton too. What sort of fish are you looking for?
  7. I always like buying my equipement seperate as i feel the Kits come with less then the best quality stuff. I would buy it all seperate As for Filters i really like the aqua clears. I have a AC 500 and a AC 300 on my 90g mbuna tank with a powerhead for extra movement. SO since you are getting a 55g i would maybe go for 2 AC 300 or 1 AC 500. The 2 AC 300 would be the best as it will give you more flow and more space to put media.Plus you can clean one filter at a time without worrying about killing the bacteria. As for heaters i have switched over to mostly Ebojager. They are reliable and good quality. I would maybe get a 200w for a 55g(i have a 200w on my 58g). I also never use airpumps and bubble wands. If you are jsut wanting extra water movement then i woudl suggest a powerhead instead. But if yo ulike the look of bubbles its fine also. AS for what Mbuna you want have you checked through some species profiles? DO you want aggresive or not so aggresive? What species have caught your eye?
  8. Beautiful, I lvoe red peacocks. It was a sad day when i had to sell my breeding group.
  9. Here is my Dog Barkley. He is a 2 year old Bichon/cocker Barkley
  10. Sounds like a nice tank. I"m not sure how the Borleyi and moorii will fair once full grown as they do get pretty big and a 90g isn't that large but i dont' think it will be too much of a problems and even then its a long time own the road. I dont' think there would be conflicts but jsut keep an eye out for them. I used to have a group of aulonocara in with my red empress, lab.perlmutts and P.electra and it somehow got very badly beaten and had to be taken out. Its been my experience that peaocks dont' really stand up for themselves to much and can easily be pushe around and picked on,especially in a tank with bigger fish or mbuna.IMPE But i think your tank would be very beautiful and would love to see somepics when its done.

    Hi

I used the 4" pipe as i have bigger rocks and some of my fish are supposed to get a bit bigger. I could have gone with the 3" pipe but oh well. I use connector joints and straight part to make a sort of l- shape. With the middle being bloced off.So it really makes a small stright cave and a L cave. They use it all the time. And its very easy to jsut take the rocks off the PVC and clean. I also made a few smaller caves with just 2"(or is it 1 1/2") balck ABS pipe cut into 4-5" lenghts. I then siliconed some gravel tot eh outside and i jsut place them along the back side for my Synos and smaller fish.MAkes a places were teh big fish can't reach them.
  12. I know it seems the fish knows you are trying to catch it. All teh fish you aren't after are practically swimming intot he net but the one you want knows you are only after it and swims for his life.
  13. A tip i use when catchingfish is to use a divider. I take out soeme of the rock on one side of my tank and put in a divider(i use that plastic cardboard stuff). I then take my hand an guide the fish over to that side of the tank and close it off. The fish are trapped in the side clear of any obsticles and easy to catch. I once thad to try adn catch 8 fish out of my 90g. I was trying for 45mins with 3 nets(i had a helper also) but still didn't catch one. I was about to give up when i thought about this. After putting in the divider it took 10mins to catch all 8 fish. This technique is especially god for catchign holdign females as you dont' stress them out as much. Hope this helps.

    Hi

Another tip for rocks caves is use PVC pipe to suppoirt them. I used 4" and 3" black ABS pipe as a base to put my rocks on. This way it saved a lot of weight and made nice caves that i wouldnt' have to worry about falling apart. I also siliconed some of my rocks together for make sure they never would fall.
  15. I"ll try to slow down feeding aroudn teh time i harvest but since it is a red wiggler bin tehre is already lots of food in there and it will take a while for the food to be lessened. I"ll try it anyways and see how it goes And this is just gross
  16. Very cool, I have always been interested in puffers but have yet to keep them. I was think of maybe setting up a dwarf tank in the future
  17. OK so let me get this straight. If i were to use a cassette tape case i would lay it on the top of the soil and just place some dry flake food on top? And then close the lid(make it dark) and leave it for a few hours? It hard to beleive taht the worms would want to crawl out of the dirt to get flake food They didn't want to for the bread
  18. Thanks, I didn't really expect to have white worms they sort of came in with some of my red wigglers. I seem to have tons right now so i thought i would try to harvest them. I"ll try again but i dont' have any glass. What sort of plastic do yo use?

    Hi

Glad you're here, welcome to the site I'm very glad to hear this I mayself have a 90g filled with Mbuna and a few haps.If you have any questions you came to the right place
  20. Well i'll start this forum off Which fish have you personally bred? I have bred Ruby red peacocks, L.ocellatus, Iodotropheus sprengerae and im jsut starting to a get a few spawning from my Lab.perlmutts(but none have held to term). I have also bred platies and guppies, but who hasn't :P
  21. Doesn't really help this thread but i was wodnering if we coudl add a little marker or somethign to show which threads you have contributed to. Like some sites have a dot or something.
  22. Dad's fishroom. I thought about getting it from a landscape place as its way cheaper but i have use regular driftwood before and it took months of soaking and boiling to make it sink. I found it owrth it to spend the extra money on a piece i wouldn't have to worry about sinking.
  23. I think "African forum" should be fine.It covers all the lakes. If we split up the forums into different lakes then there would be too many small forums that are hardly used.
  24. yeah i came, I was pretty close ot the front of the line.I was with some girlt hat was wearign neon pink pantyhose if that helps, pretty hard to miss her :P I was there from about 9-10:30 then we ditched as it didn't look like we were getting in. We left and went to BPs.After pizza i went home with my friend and my friend gen had to drive the othe rguy we were with back to new city as he left his bike there. well they thought they woudl give it one more chance of getting in. My friend gen(the one on the guest list) wen tup and tried to get ym friend dan in but they said no.he gave them 20$ and they let him in. So they got to see the operators and SNFU. It sucks that i went home but i didn't know they would try again. It was a crazy night, we were standing with Chris's(bass player for the operators) borther and he coudlnt' even get in. There was like some nazi bouncers there that night.
