The only down side to small pellets I find, is that they sometimes get blown to bits in the current of the filters. I don't want to turn the filters off because sometimes I forget to turn them back on.

Sorry not coming up from Calgary but when I bought my 180 there were 4 of us and a pick up truck. Luckily we could back up to the back door of the pet store and drive up my lawn to the steps. Last year we moved it from our front room out the front door, around the side of the house and down the back stairs to the basement (kind of slid it down the carpeted stairs.) Had 5 of us for outside and three down the stairs. Not fun but better than I thought. No suction cups either time.

I have frontosas in a 180 gallon and you really need a tank that size, but if I were doing serious breeding of Haps and Mbunas, I don't know if I'd want 210s, just because of the pain of catching holding fish in a tank that size. 210s would be great show tanks or community tanks though. When I tire of frontosas, that's what I will try in my 180. For breeding, the 50-100 gallon seems just easier for 90% of the cichlids out there.

Is she in a tank alone or with other fish? So do you want to raise the babies? Need more information.

Have three Eheim classics but never used anything else to compare with that. Reliable but sometimes awkward to prime.

I have seen what you ask about and thought it might work but know no one who has had one so I can't help there. I use an inverted 2 litre pop bottle with base cut off, an air stone with a cheap pump, and an old HOB 50 W heater to keep water at 80F. I get great hatchings in 24-30 h and have run this almost daily for 2 years. I feed it to Dolphin and Lab fry for the first three weeks and have sold over 800 fry in the last two years.

Maybe yellow labs - two adult females and one male - I'm not sure if it would work. Or you could have 10 or 15 lab fry and enjoy them until close to 2 inches and then sell or trade them.

I'd go with two AC300s (AC70) if you want efficient and cheap. I have three Eheim classics - one bought used, one on sale in town, one cheap by U.S. order. They are nice and silent but much more money.

When you say $1 per gallon, is that tank only - not extras? Tank has water and the couple of fish in it seem fine. Let's not account for any value of fish, just the tank, filters, heater, and light.

A nieghbour of mine had a son move out, leaving a 50 gallon tank. Neighbour wants to sell it and knowing I'm into fish, wants to know what he should ask. It has a top, make-shift light, heater, two AC 300s. Tank is in good condition. When I buy used, I never want to pay more than half of new price, and with fish stuff I often see it going for 1/4 to 1/3 of original price. I was thinking of telling him to try for $100. What do you think? (Maybe I can convince him to advertise it here).

Saw some nice looking Rainbows at Elite Aquarium on the weekend. Just wondered who has tried which varieties and what size tank. Should you keep various species together and has anyone had success with breeding? {I'm talking about success with the fish breeding, I'm not prying into your private lives.} Also, any good web sites dedicated to info on this type of fish?

It looks like newly laid eggs to me. They are not three weeks old.

I have a binder edition of Exotic TropicaL Fishes by Axelrod. It is aphabetical with color pics and requirements listed. The only bad news is that it is from the-70s so not current on African Cichlids for example, but great for the staples of the industry. I doubt it is in print any longer. (TFH Publications)

Thank you. I wasn't aware that I had ever changed anything to make it do that but at least now I know how to fix it.

I'm enjoying it as my daughter gave it as a gift to me for Christmas last year but I don't know if I will renew it next year or not. I wouldn't go hungry paying the $36 U.S. but it just seems like too much money for what you get. If it came out monthly for that price I'd do it.

Yes, this male is the dad of all of the Dolphin fry I have ever had. I find the fry grow slower than any African Cichlid I have ever owned.

I have a group of five C. moorii; one male and four females. They have been spawning for the past two years with one spawn in the 90's. Below is a photo of the male and one female. I showed the pictures to Denis at Gold Aquarium. He said he'd be interested in buying the group and "how much did I want for them." I really did not go in with the idea of selling them so said I could not really give a price as they were not for sale. He wouldn't offer me a firm price either. If I ever do sell, I wonder what I'd get for the five of them? [i was actually showing him pics of one of my 9 inch male mpimbwes that I thought I might sell, but he wasn't really interested in a male.]

Thanks to all who have shown interest. Yes, I don't much like taking full tank shots - I've tried tripod, no flash and the fish blur. With digital, at least nothing is wasted. I try for angle shots to avoid reflections (flash not detachable), then I do lots of cropping of unwanted stuff to the side, top, and bottom of the picture.
