sherlock
Is there any truth that actinic lighting in a freshwater tank will cause the black algae? I have two of these bulbs on my tank, more for the color, and I have the stuff growing all over everything. Is there any easy way of getting rid of this stuff? timbruun
Very few things eat black hair algae. I just cut off where the algae was and it hasn't really come back since. Only on a couple leaves that I'm going to trim off soon also.
werner
This stuff tends to prefer harder, higher pH water. If it's a planted tank, you might want to add CO2.
Erin
I had a problem with this stuff. I found that if you don't get all of it, it will keep coming back. Good luck!
sherlock
I do have a couple of low light plants, but I would not consider it a planted tank. Any ideas on what causes this stuff? I add Flourish once aweek, should I maybe cut that out? The lights are only on 8 hours a day.
fishclubgirl
I'm loving my SAE for getting rid of mine!! It was either that or get some Nair.
jvision
If you only have a few low light plants, stop adding the Flourish, it's feeding the algae.
maniac
I just upgraded my tanks and have black algae growing on many of the ornaments/fake plants that I moved over. Is there any truth to soaking them in diluted bleach to get rid of it?
Nicklfire
yes a diluted bleach solution should help remove it, a tooth brush and some elbow greese should help as well
