GIJester
If you wander into Calgary - I found SIL sand really cheap at Consolidated Compressor in the South off Barlow. SIL 8 and 9 - one is a fine grain rock the other a nice sand... I used both Jesse
Vallisneria
Or play sand. Sil industries also sells various sizes of sand/gravel. Are you looking for a particular quality to the sand? Color, size etc?
jvision
Play sand, Quickrete brand at Home Depot is my favorite, is silica. If you want something more coarse, then I'd recommend SIL Industries (Sil8 or 9) - not sure if they're open on the weekend, tho. Google them and give them a call mid-week. Iceturf
Or play sand. Sil industries also sells various sizes of sand/gravel. Are you looking for a particular quality to the sand? Color, size etc? Is Sil industries still selling black sand?
jvision
The black sand they sell is copper slag. Some anecdotal evidence says it can damage barbels on cats and gills on sifting fish.

RebelThunder
not really a particluar color and I know pool filter sand will do the trick too. I will try again next time. I just need to do some research on the exact place again.
jvision
Take Yellowhead east to 17st exit. Take the off ramp, and when you get to the intersection with the service road, you can go right to 17st, or left to Sil... Go left - it's about 3 or 4 businesses down
RebelThunder
@jvision will try that next time.thanks. I bought some quikrete playsand and its a bit fine, but do the job well also. I might stick to this for the time being.
Ishkabod
next time you decide you to come to edmonton give me a shout and i`ll give you my number so you can call and get directions if you can`t find it. this is how i tell people how to find it Head east on yellowhead and take the first off ramp after the North Sask river. As you go around watch at the top and take a left down the service road that goes parallel to the yellowhead. If you hit the stop light you need to do a 180 and head east again. Good luck L Edited May 16, 2011 by Ishkabod
