Milan
Looks to me like a Wels Catfish. I grew up on Danube, and remember that 400lb cats in local fishermen's nets over there were not something unusual ...

HOSStile
Milan, it appears you are right, it is a Wels and this one weighed 187 pounds and was caught in Italy, using Eels as bait. Still a wonderful addition to any catfish collection. http://xvella.free.fr/photos/photo-eng.php...&idx=713&cntp=2 Edited September 17, 2005 by HOSStile
Toirtis
Someday, I will own a pond with a couple of wels....
Milan
Youngsters would probably survuve in ponds, providing the temperature is right. They are hardy fish. I don't know why, but for some reason Wels are not found in North American continent. As for gastronomic values, they are considered a delicasy in Europe. dunl
Not to mention any aimless, wandering Bambi's that might happen to stroll to the edge of your pond for a drink.....
Toirtis
There was one in Germany a couple of years back that snarfed a cocker spaniel that decided to go for a quick dip in a local canal...
dunl
If I remember correctly, there are giant ones in China that occasionally devour small children. Seriously. I'll see if I can find a link.
