  1. Welcome Back Jason! Enjoy your second tour of duty with AA.
  2. Hey Gang, I've been checking out pumps for my wet/dry, and I thought I'd gather some opinions for comparison sake. I'm not doing this as a poll because........well, frankly it's been a long day and I just don't have the ambition. -05- The three brands I am considering (I want submersible) are: Aquus Surge Rio 26HP Mag Any thoughts or recommendations?
  3. Welcome aboard Zagz! Good to see another cichlid keeper at AA.
  4. . You are warped Albert.
  5. Durso won't work with your set-up will it dunl? What about running a length of airline tubing part way down the drain pipe? You could maybe even change your plumbing configuration to include a "T" near the top of your drain line. Either would allow excess air to escape, which as you know, is creating your noise. Nothing like having a toilet flushing in your livingroom, eh?

    Hello

Hope you enjoy AA as much as we do!
  7. :welcome: Welcome to AA. Your knowledge and experience with Discus will be a welcome addition. Enjoy!
  8. Welcome to AA! Glad you decided to join us.
  9. Hey Connie/Mike, Unless you have a nitrate problem, or your bio-balls are visibly clogged, there is really no need to clean them. Just test your water parameters, and you may save yourself some unnecessary effort. If you do need to clean them then, as neatfreak suggested, rinse them in your tank water. If I were you I would only clean 1/2 at a time so as not to completely disrupt your bio balance. Hope this helps! Doc
  10. Welcome to AA!
  11. There was some discussion about this same topic on Canreef just a short time ago. Apparently Bow Valley will drill glass tanks, but I don't know if this true or how much $$$ you may be looking at. Likely worth a few bucks anyway as opposed to using an HOB overflow box. The box method just has too much potential for disaster as far as I'm concerned. When you find a source to drill your tank, please update this thread so that other members can benefit as well. Good luck! Doc
  12. Awesome tanks Andy! Your talent for aquascaping is reason for envy. Of the three, I find the 30 gallon very striking. Beautiful work.
  13. I'm by no means a woodworking expert, but when I was considering a DIY tank stand some time ago, a peer suggested finishing with Poly-acrylic. Apparently, it is easy to apply and stands up really well in wet environments. Keep in mind, this is just what I have been told. "Google" might be a handy tool to research some finishing methods and see which suits your fancy. Good luck with your project!
  14. Nice work Nev!! :w00t: That looks awesome. Must feel great to go from a paper sketch to the real deal......Now just to finish the 60, eh? BTW, if your Saulosi are prolific breeders, I may come calling in the not so distant future. They have always been one of our favorites, but good stock has been difficult to find as of late. Congrats again. Doc_Polit
  15. Hey Rob! I found a couple of sources for West Systems epoxy that all the guys on Cichlid-Forum seem to rave about. Alberta Plastics and Paint 2355 Pegasus Way NE #2 Calgary, AB (403) 204-1923 Yacht Yard Calgary, AB (403) 291-9222 From what I hear, the stuff is expensive but well worth the $$$. Easy to use, and strong. Lots of the CF guys use this epoxy and sand as opposed to concrete for their DIY backgrounds. Hope this helps!! Doc_Polit
  16. Quick update..... The stuff wasn't hydra, so I wasn't sure what to do. Several days passed while I contemplated giving everything a good dose of bleach, and starting over from scratch. During this time the stuff turned green. It was actually some kind of wild hair algae! -roll- All that paranoia was cured by a simple algae scrub. What a relief. :smokey:
  17. Hey Gang, I could really use some help! There is something growing inside my 10 gallon tank that I haven't encountered in all the years I've kept fish. The tank is a standard 10 gallon with canopy (compact fluorescents for light). It is heated and filtered by 2 AC Mini's. The gravel is brand new, natural colored. The only inhabitant is 1 male Betta Splendens, although I just removed 4 Platies lastnight. Anyway....these growths look like tiny sprigs of dandelion fluff. They appear to be white, and are partially free-flowing with a tiny tail that adheres to the glass. From a distance it just looks like the glass is dirty or has algae starting to form. We went from a handful of these things to hundreds in 2 weeks. :boxed: Anybody have any idea what this stuff is? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Doc_Polit
  18. Definitely submersible. No worries, FP!
  19. Just a quick update.... I came home today to a Betta stricken with Ich. Although I hadn't noticed any unusual behavior in the tank before, after observing for several minutes, I noticed the tankmates (1 in particular) nipping his tail fin. Just a little stressful, I would guess. :guns: The fin nippers made a hasty return to Petland, and I came home with a bottle of Maracide. It's gonna be a fun week.
  20. Hey Kat, Just in case you've missed it, I sent you a Private Message a few days back and could really use some advice. Doc_Polit
  21. :welcome: Welcome Kat! Nice to have you aboard. :smokey:
  22. Awesome! Thanks for the help. Doc
  23. Does anyone know if/where Betta Imbellis might be available locally? Your help is sincerely appreciated. Doc_Polit
