  1. I've got the red lazers and they're quite small while the turquoise get pretty big, I'd worry the lazers would get out competed for food as they didn't seem to do well in my tank with skull creeks. As far as compatibility with rams, I wouldn't see a problem unless the rams are breeding, even then I wouldn't worry too much based on my previous experience with rainbows and Bolivian rams. Just make sure to de-worm the rams.
  2. Looks amazing but for the $8-10,000 it'd cost to have that done properly I'd want to put in a much nicer scape. Things to consider: -Brace or reinforce the floor, that's at least a 180 gallon tank in the middle of the floor. -Don't work much about strength, any smart tank builder will specify 3/4" or 1" glass... It'll withstand the apocalypse. -You'll need some way to lift the counter top for servicing and maintenance. -Basement sump = biiiig, potentially noisy return pump, do you have a utility room or closet directly under your desired location? All that being said, if I was building a new house I'd consider doing this.

    Custom Tanks

Nice tank and glad to hear Concept still sells nice tanks. The only gripe I have with the custom tanks is the big heavy bracing all the local suppliers seem to use, I find it really takes away from what could be an even nicer looking tank.

    Lily Pipes

Lily pipes aren't necessary but dang they look good. I've seen and handled the eBay knockoffs and the ADA, I couldn't tell the difference aside from the package.
  5. Glad to hear you are going to level, people forget how much weight is in these little tubs of water, even 1/4" out is going to really stress one pane more than the others
  6. I think you should level it. 1/4" is way out of level on something as short as a 75. if it were 6-7 feet long and out 1/4" I'd still say to level it... Like zoopkamol said, it's easier to level than clean up water
  7. I like Chicago.... Wonder if I can get my boss to send me back there for training lol
  8. Mine are looking like the first photo, already pretty but they keep getting nicer. They are a higher activity rainbow but so far that just means they keep my other fish from sitting around lazily
  9. Pretty fish you've got but I'm impatient so I only keep fish that like showing off lol
  10. My friend built a cradle for my 90 when I bought it. It was made from 2x4s and provided full support to the bottom rim of the tank and best of all it had legs and handles so you aren't having to lift right from the floor.
  11. If you end up tearing down the 33 long and want to sell I might be interested
  12. Ugh, the list isn't long but there is a list. 1) Galaxy rasbora - I haven't given up but I haven't tried really hard either 2) Bettas - We followed all the rules and the female tore all hell out of two different males so we decided to just give up before someone died 3) Bolivian Rams - Our big male paired off with a pretty little girl and laid several clutches of eggs.... in a tank with 3-4" rainbows. The first clutch didn't last more than a day, 2nd through 5th lasted a little longer then they got it figured and we had HATCHLINGS!!!! A ton of them, we were feeding repashy diet through a turkey baster and they seemed to be growing then they little wigglers got big enough to catch the eye of the rainbows and that was that. We tried putting the male and his girl in a nice separate tank and got no eggs, I later found out I'd grabbed the wrong female. Put em back in the main tank and since then, nothing, no courting no eggs, nothing. 4) Rainbows - I haven't put a ton of effort into them but I'll try again soon. I get some courting and dancing and the girls seem interested but nothing serious.
  13. Princess auto might have a 24V dc adapter in their surplus section or Active Tech electronics almost certainly will have what you need. I often find Value Village is a good source for stuff like that too, just go through their power supply section and you'll usually find what you need for a couple bucks.
  14. Assassin snails can also become a pest if you keep shrimp.
  15. Fissidens WILL attach to almost anything, some of mine attached to the black plastic divider/sump wall in my 5 gallon fluval spec, but its a real slow grower so it takes a looooong time, I think that moss was in there for 4 months and it still had a fairly tenuous hold. Java and christmas moss will grab on much more quickly and then you can cheat and mush your fissidens into the java so it all grows together... It can look sloppy or cool, depending on luck and careful trimming.
  16. Most any fish that can catch and jam a shrimp in it's mouth (with a very few exceptions) will eat Em but if you have a thriving shrimp population and lots of hiding places you may not notice a decline in population (you probably will notice how little you spend on fish food)
  17. Ada is nice but you pay for it. Mr.Aqua is just as nice IMO, for about half the price or less. Marineland tanks are nice but watch for sloppy silicone joints, sometimes it looks like the tank was glued by an unskilled child. Fluval tanks are better than marineland IMO but I dont think they make a 20 long.
  18. It does look like fissidens and I need some as black bush algae killed mine.
  19. I don't think it would be aggression, possible but strange that I'd lose two fish and have one get in a fender bender but have no nipped tails or bites. RD, I was wondering if that might be it, it was one of the few things I'd seen which was definitely indicated as being a possible issue. Reading indicates that this is potentially a huge problem and since these rainbows are pretty tough to come by this is pretty depressing to consider.
  20. My rainbows have been doing good until recently, having lost one mysteriously over night a week or two ago and then last night I lost two more and one of my last four is curved or bent to his left side. He is bent like he's in a permanent left turn, but not kinked hard over. He is swimming in a darty motion and seems to be mostly in control considering. I've tried googling but without knowing a more specific term to apply to the condition the results are just too generic and not at all helpful. I'll try and snap a photo but I'm not sure how much luck I'll have.
  21. I didn't use mine long but I found that yes, the spray bar could come off quite easily. The bottom never seemed to come off though, perhaps you've got a weak or broken clip.
  22. Aqueon pro heaters are probably my favorite but I'm using a Hydor ETH external on my smaller display tank and so far it seems pretty good except for the temperature markings on the adjuster are not even on the same planet as the actual tank temperature. I've got it set to 79 or 80 degrees to get my tank to 76... this isn't to say the heater is insufficient, it just needs to be checked after setting. I also second (third? fourth?) the people suggesting to not start with demanding plants, high light and CO2. I would suggest one of the T5HO lights at first and I'd get a boat load of cheaper, hardier plants to get the tank started and after you've gotten past the first 3 months, I would then add CO2. I would suggest using a 5 or 10 lb bottle, paintball bottles don't last very long on big tanks. After a couple months watching your beginner plants absolutely EXPLODE with CO2, I would step up to the tougher, more demanding plants. It's really beneficial to get things growing before you move to those tough plants because it's been my experience that if you can keep the tank algae free for the first few months it'll stay algae free unless someone tips over the applecart, as long as things stay generally the same you'll have less maintenance and less ferts/light/CO2 balancing which is nice, steady and stable makes me happy.
  23. Only 6 tanks for 240 gallons... Slacking off I guess.
  24. The biggest/only tank I've resealed was a 90 but it went smooth and easy, just like all the diy articles said it would. I have two tips though, get some mechanics gloves (mechanix wear or similar) and get used to wearing on working in them and but the 100 pack of Stanley razor blades at canadian tire, you'll go through a lot and you need to toss em as soon as you notice them getting dull. The gloves will save your fingers from the back spine of the blades but reduce dexterity, for me the trade is worth it but you gotta practice or you'll end getting cut when the blade slips. Also, buy band aids... If you have em you won't need them, if you don't have any you'll have to drive to the store while bleeding
  25. I'm not a fan of parrot fish and while I don't dislike discus I don't want anything to do with keeping them.
