  2. my three cats are bad for that too, they are consatly tring to get the fish through the galss on all my tanks, funnest thing to see.
  3. I keep my tanks all at 25-26C doesn't mater what's in them, the water is all the same, that way for any reason I can switch fish to another of my tanks with no problems at any time.
  4. Breeding Strawberry peacocks , Super Red Empress Cichlids, starting to Breed BN plecos, plan on breeding L46 Plecos soon.
  5. actually there are some than can be. but not safe for use in fish tanks though.
  6. I have some of the African Dwarf Frogs they are great, mine like to hang out in my big pile of driftwood, mine seem to do ok for food wise, with 8 corries, 2 small highfin Plecos, 2 Large Common plecos, and a 6" Golden Algea eater in my 90 gallon, you just have to make sure you put some food where they are hiding out.
  7. http://diyfishkeepers.com Best place on the net and Canadian owned too.
  8. yes it's on the main floor, the wall right behind is a load bearing wall, with 4 2x10" under it and 2 steel poles, the other wall is that is sits beside is the out side wall, I had a buddy who is an structual engineer look at the floor and seid go for it, it's not going anywhere. The water proofing I am using is Liquid Rubber made by Zavlar ( found at Home Hardware) there is 6 coats rolled on all the panels with 8 coats brushed in the corners with fiber glass mesh for added strenght. note: if you use the liquid rubber to seal the glass or acrylic to it you need to use 3M 5200 Marine sealant instead of normal silicone, the other option is to use epoxy resin to seal the wood where the glass will go and then normal GE silicone 1 can be used. I will be spraying the inside now that the liquid rubber has cured for 3 weeks with Krylon Fusion paint in Hunters green, let it cure for 2 weeks and install the glass using GE1 as it will stick to Krylon fusion which does bond to liquid rubber and is fish safe once cured.
  9. I was going to to do a fully planted set up, but decided to do a DIY riverbank background with roots and such going to house my 2 big Common Plecos, and other types of Plecos as well as, my 2 Tiger Oscars, and prob RTC always wanted a Cat fish
  10. I use Epson salt 1 teaspoon for every 5G turn the heat up to 82-86F, I do this for 1 week adding the Epson salt everyday do a 30% waterchange every second day, after a week if not fully cured continue for a few more days once no signs of sickness are showing do a 70% water change, and slowly lower the temp back to normal temp, I only turn the filters off to service them otherwise I leave them on as long as I can. hopefuly everything will be ok.
  11. well I figured I would show off my 240 gallon tank build from the start to where it is at right now. the stand is 96"Lx24"Wx24"H 2x4" constuction. the tank is 3/4" plywood glued and screwed with 2.5" screws 2" appart. 96"Lx24"Wx24"H glass is 3/8" thick 93.75"Lx23"high lining is Zavlar's Liquid rubber 40ml thick with mesh inbeaded in the corners for added strength. 4 1" stand pipes to feed a 40 gallon breeder k1 moving bed filter sump with a Danner Mag drive 2400 return pump. always have an inspector inspect your work. LOL! and that's where the tank and stand are at right now. more to come as I progress on this build.
  12. Dow corning 735 same as GE 1 made by same manufacture , 837 can be used as well. sorry don't have pictures of either tube, this info was gathered off of monsterfish.com from the sticky thread regarding safe silicones that can be used. 3M5200 marine sealant can be used to seal glass or acrylic in plywood tanks with liquid rubber uses as the sealant. I have used GE silicone #1 for assembly of tanks from 5-55 gallons and know of atleast 10 tanks over 100 gallons put together with it.
  13. RTV-103 RTV108 are both comercial grade of GE silicone 1 basicly the same formula just has a better tensile strenght to it, info came right from the Manufacture.
  14. thanks, will post so pictures of my 240 soon.
  15. I saw that show river mosters where he was catching them, man those are huge.
  16. yup I have 3 African Dwarf Frogs in my 90 gallon and all my Guppy fries have disapeared, I am thinking it time to remove them as well, they are cool though but not that cool.
  17. looks awesome man, nice work! I agree a nice matching canopy on the tank would be icing on the cake.
  18. I have 2 common Plecos 11", and 8", 9 Bn plecos, 1 spotted Highfin, 1 rubber lip Pleco, 1 clown Pleco (non algea eater), 2 Golden Algea eaters, 4 Corries, And yes the Plecos poop big time, especially the 2 big Commons, I have Vacummed out a strand that was over 3 foot long.
  19. my tap water is 7.8 PH here is Sherwood Park, I have never had an issue with any of my Plecos or any of my fish at all with it. I don't even check it any more as it never changes, the only test I do are for Ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate, and those not very often as all my tanks get 2 or 3 water changes of 40% a week, with gravel cleaning and filters cleaned.
  20. don't get a clown pleco they don't eat Algea at all, rubber lips are good, or the female BN, I have 9 Bristle nose in my 20 gallon, just small ones 1-2.5" I haven't cleaned the glass or any decore in months in there, just normal water changes with a gravel cleaning, the clown I have in there looks cool if you can find it, it's more a veggie eater or flake food, the rubber lip will eat anything dropped in as well as algea.
