  1. This is neat, the shrimp climbing on the moss freaked me out for a moment ha. Can you link to the humidifier you used? Also - what did you use to make the floating 'sandy' part? I'd be curious to see build pictures if you don't mind?
  2. I've always looked at the RO systems, all the hoses and the plastic connections bother me in terms of their long term performance, what have owners found?
  3. Well I think I get the just of what your approach is - you are superimposing known spectral bands on top of eachother to create an 'overall' waveform light coloration. Its a good idea, more efficient than the typical approach of using Phosphorous coatings, which is how most 'white' light is created. The real question here is, will you have more led's on the edge of wavelengths not commonly used by aquarium owners? The only real issue, is perhaps waste, when some or many LED's may get under-ulitilized. Its probably cheaper not to care about underultilization and just go with a single super mass manufactured design. I suspect some premade 'blocks' of say 6" or 8" lengths that click together would be ideal, like what Psylant said. Click 'up' for a bigger tank, click 'down' for something smaller. Best with the fixture
  4. Really? Didn't work? Hm. I'm glad I didn't waste money then on that led strip. Was it just not bright enough? Any ideas?
  5. I've been tempted to try something like this: http://www.dx.com/p/108w-7000k-600x5050-smd-led-white-light-strip-10-meter-12v-65713#.Vt-EQPkrLcs Power ratings are more relevant than individual LED power outage. ( Massive #'s of little led's in parallel)
  6. Strip LED lighting, I think there was a discussion about that a little while ago.
  7. Ha! I knew it was going to go there, I was curious how long it would take to get mentioned.
  8. Sounds cool - keep us posted! (flame moss?)
  9. Typical EI dosing fertilizer. After some advice, took at look at it and the fertilizer mix smells acidic - so I guess spraying the plants with it created an excellent moist environment for mold, etc.
  10. If your wood is getting wet directly and regularly - I don't think it matters what kind of plywood. Construction grade fir is cheap and tough, go with that.
  11. I have an emmerssed tank of various aquarium plants I've collected. I recently mixed a half - half mix of fertilizer in a spray bottle, sprayed the emmersed tank and now a number of plants are turning black and dying...?
  12. Even with the dollar exchange?!
  13. I had this issue a while ago - I had used Vaseline for a year or two while I didn't have silicone grease/lubricant. While its hard to tell, my O ring is old, I think it did 'go funny' a bit. It wasn't a resilient or springy as my other canister filter O ring. Since then I bought plumbers silicone grease. I'm assuming its fish safe, silicone grease/lubricant is funny when it comes to companies outright saying"foodsafe" etc. I got the impression that it is foodsafe adjacent, so as RD said don't use in excess. Anyways, nice sized tin for 5$, vs a tiny finger dab for 7$ from hardware stores. I haven't checked on my filters since then, but no leaks or issues. Does it really matter? meh?
  14. The webpage goes white most of the time when I click on something, especially when I login. I keep getting the above when I try to send a PM.
  15. I seem to be having a load of login glitches lately, I'm not sure is it just me or what to do to solve the problem? 16. This might be somewhat off topic - is 30PPI ok for shrimp?
  17. I've always wondered, how are these to take care of after a while? I tried a sponge on my canister intake, and it was forever problematic.
  18. When you say edmonton water, do you mean no fertilizer added?
  19. The yellowing is curious, plastics yellow primarily under UV exposure, making me wonder if these LED's don't have proper phosphorous coatings to convert the UV to visible light.
  20. Woa, thank you for sharing dude! Very crisp photos, do you mind emailing me full res photos ? I wouldn't mind adding them to my screensaver / background.
  21. I'm a little curious on the life preformance of those LED strips from China land, but I think the idea, and what you can do with it is fantastic. Avoid the bulky heatsink, and just spread out among many little LED's. I like the video where he changes the colour of the strip, very neat.
