  1. I've seen quite a few of these as well down by the Beverly bridge area and they defiantly look like some sort of crab Yes!!! Finally someone else who has seen them.
  2. What kind of hermit crab is this?
  3. Livestock Suggestions: White Cloud Mtn Minnow (7-9) Long-fin Zebra/Leopard Dannios (7-9) Ghost Shrimp (10) Plant Suggestions: Frogbit Java Moss Java Fern Good luck with the rebuild. This option will keep is super cost-effective, yet interesting and beautiful to watch.
  4. They're called Featherfin Rainbows - super ideal for keeping with shrimp. Plus they look super interesting.
  5. Hey there. I've been rocking a community tank with RCS, Ghost Shrimp, and Amanos. I have White Cloud Mtn Minnows with them and it's been super peaceful going on a year now. I'd also suggest Endlers as another safe bet. There's also a third fish that escapes me at the moment, they have them at Big Al's often. Very very small fish with longer fins (not danios). They have very very tiny mouths and that's all you really need to look for... Good luck!
  6. At present I've got red cherry shrimp, amano shrimp, dwarf frogs, white cloud minnows, zebra thorn and nerite snails as well as a few ghost shrimp and some red skunk shrimp. All of them have been living peacefully for quite a while now.
  7. They can't. I've had my cube going for a while now. The only possibility is other shrimp hassling them after a molt, or just plain old shrimp not able to handle water parameter changes long-term.
  8. You're pretty much hooped. Honestly, if you try to secure it weakly again you're looking for trouble. Many owners have had their lights and/or lids break as a result of the backgrounds shooting up. I have an EBI and I secured my background with a few more beads of fish-safe silicone. That will require you emptying it... Look on the bright side: at least now you have slightly more water capacity in your tank - and that means slightly less work.
  9. I actually did the same thing. Before I set mine up I put three extra beads along the top, sides, and a strip along the bottom. It's worked like a charm. The EBI is my favorite tank by far.
  10. Is it true that these are generally hardier than RCS?
  11. I'm quite positive they were crab exoskeletons. Need to harvest some to ID.
  12. I honestly couldn't tell you if it's the same crab. I was just completely surprised by the sheer amount of exoskeletons along the shore. My interest has certainly been peaked and I've considered trying some trapping there to see if there's anything to it...
  13. Thanks Jason. Anyone else have experience with the Walstad Method? I like the concept of a relatively self-sustaining set-up that only requires water changes twice a year... Especially with the low stocking I'll have.
  14. It's true... Pisces does have a decent selection of crabs. I'm not sure if this is worth noting, but I found dozens of crab exoskeletons along the shore of the North Saskatchewan river in Edmonton. I was under the impression that there was no freshwater crabs in Alberta...
  15. I'm curious if anyone out there is keeping/kept a walstad method tank? I'm thinking about switching my 75 gallon over, or starting up a 29 gallon (might do a 20 long instead). I would love advice, feedback, and any tales from experience. Please advise? Thanks.
  16. Make sure you wear protective eyewear when you're cutting the glass. I've got shards of glass lodged my tear ducts before. Not a pretty sight. Even worse a feeling.
  17. Do you only have a sponge filter running on that 75 gallon?
  18. The standard light is fine for growing things like: Java Moss Java Fern Frogbit Various Swords Various Anubias
  19. I have the same one. The Fluval Ebi? If so, I've currently got it stocked with the following: - 5 White Cloud Minnows - 4 Ghost Shrimp - 3 Amano Shrimp - 4 Zebra (Nerite) Thorn Snails
  20. Welcome! What kind of tank is this 6.6 gallon?
  21. Shrimp sound like an ideal fit IMO. You could always try something fun like a small native tank? Or a Dwarf Puffer tank. They are hilarious to watch.
