  1. Wendy have a look at this and compare the height to the picture with the top lid removed. There are 4 little tabs at the bottom of the cannister that keeps the baskets centered.maybe your baskets are sitting on top of one.
  2. Nothing but the best for my boys, just smack the stuff with a hammer until it is the right size. Failing that, then NLS is OK
  3. I never clean my filtre material by running water over it...use the water that you take out when you change out your water. That way you will not kill off the good bacteria and I would only do this as jvision said rarely/ once every 2-3 months would be lots... oh ya and dont overfeed or overstock the tank.. Err actually that is what Aaron said, really he did :eh:
  4. Very nice fish, thank you for putting them up. I have 9 discus, 3 ottos, 2 clown loaches and 18 cardinal tetras in a 90 gal.
  5. It was in a tank marked firemouths, none were big enough to have very distinctive markings, they were so cheap I bought 2 of the more interesting ones, this one and one that turned out to be JD. Right now he is in with the JD, Festaes,FMs, Nics and others awaiting sale. There is a little pushing and shoving but nothing serious.
  6. I agree with punman, If someone has comments or a question just send a pm.
  7. I bought this guy as a juvey from Petsmart before it had the spots as something else. The flash has washed out the color which is more green.
  8. No offence Vic but that is the most ORIGINAL material you have posted in a while. Wendy read my post again, and notice that I didn't say to ban jokes but to put it in one place so that people who WANT to read them, can. And excuse me GR8BLADE, unlike Vic's posts which are clearly marked as humor you cannot always tell the content, based on the title so sometimes you do open something you wish you hadn't.
  9. I start this by saying that this directed at no one person. That being said it becoming increasingly tedious to find anything of value in the water cooler forum. Lately it has became inundated with text jokes that in all honesty most of us have seen before. This of course is followed by 5 or 6 posts, usually by the same people typing in their rolling smiley heads. God knows I think GOOD humor whether in the form of prose, or video links is great, but I remember a day when we could have meaningful discussions about meaningful topics at the water cooler. A topic that requires a little more input than picking the suitable smiley. So I suggest that we start a "Little Levity" or "On the lighter side," where the people who want to post or read what they consider to be witty, and leave the water cooler for REAL discussion. JMO
  10. Siphon them out as soon as they are free swimmers. http://www.gcca.net/fom/Herotilpia_multispinosa.htm
  11. Rather unique way to express displeasure. -roll-
  12. Couple of things, are they huddled together, lying on top of each other? Everything you say suggests stress and I agree with Tammy in that I would raise temp. give the fish places to hide and change water like crazy. If there is anything wrong with water quality CLs are one of the first to display problems such as faded or PALE coloring.
  13. So I don't have to call you Sir or your Holiness, oops right 80 % I will leave it at Sir. Where did you get the mystery fish? I bought 2 little fish from Petsmart that were supposed to be FM 1 turned out looking like a Texas and the other I have no idea.
  14. A couple of curlies at the bottom hardly makes it a hairy stick. Now this is Hairy stick gone wrong.
  15. It gets out of the tank slithers across the room and leaves little hickees all over your body while you sleep... no wait that was my ex-wife. They are a pest, though.
  16. You might find this interesting. http://thegab.org/Articles/ADFCareSheet.html Scroll down to Behavioral Characteristics
  17. I think if I was given no food for 2 days, netted out my home early in the morning while half asleep, put in a little plastic bag with some of my tank mates that I didn't like a lot and also had no idea about WTF was going on. Then to be bounced around, bumped ,scrutinized, tipped over, and generally have a poopy time, while my water is getting colder and poopier by the minute. Then hours later to be thrown in a different tank with a bunch of strangers that want to kick my @$$.... Well I would want to be SEDATED!!!
  18. The wheels would be good for moving it empty for positioning etc. Like Nick said I would put it on wood supports like 4x4 or whatever would be slightly higher than the wheels and the wood would compress when the tank was filled sharing the load between the wood and the wheels while remaining at the desired height. When I worked in the hospital I would porter burn patients to the O.R. in mobile water beds. When I would push the bed into the elevator it would drop about 2 inches, most of that from the weight of the bed, rather than the weight of me. It was a lot of fun to get the bed rolling and even more fun to stop. And Toirtis, four locomotives even slaved together would need an engineer and his thermos, which would make the whole rig weigh 1560350 pounds which of course exceeds the stands structural limit.
  19. Who know's, maybe algae fights tartar. Excellent tip Tom
  20. I bought this at Petsmart when it was tiny along with another fish both were supposed to be fire mouths, 1 looks like a Texas and then theres this. The spots are bright green and well you see the rest. Again I bought them when they looked completely different and they were cheap.
  21. You want a couple of green ones that size.... for you free.
  22. I had a similar case in a planted with loaches. I raise temp to shorten the life span of the ich, treated the water at half recommended dosage because of the loaches and added salt to build up the slime coat of the fish and to mess with the osmoitic balance of any free swimming ich. It is argued by many that when ich is attached to the fish, it is almost impervious to any treatment, so I am not really sure of the sucess of a salt bath just for the affected fish only to return them to a tank full of free swimming ich. Oh and remove the snails and remove the activated charcoal from your filter if you use meds.
  23. And as I far as know I will be doing the hitting... (up for talk on ponds)
