  1. thanks for the compliment on the bettas at my store. one mistake though, my name is Bryan not Dave lol and yes we do have some specialty bettas at the store. one problem, we are moving everything to the 97 st location. we have the 1 half moon red and some dragon round tails as well as 1 black copper. as well as a couple of crowns some female and some regular bettas. im not sure if i should be posting what we carry as we arent a sponcer on this site yet but im working on it. i have to convince the owner. if anyone knows who i should speak to in regards to becoming a sponser on this site please pm me and give me some info that i can go to the boss with.
  2. having the tank that close to the window cant be helping either. just a thought.
  3. you might want to try upping the flow around the tank as well as using a phosphate remover to get rid of the excess nutrients in the water. are you using tap water for your water hanges? if so the city water table has some extra goodies in it at this time of year. that could also be a part of the problem. snails and crabs are an easy way to keep it down as well. i would really try the phosphate remover though. i think with that and a couple of powerheads and a sand sifting goby it should get rid of most of it if not all of it. hope this helps, best of luck
  4. really good lookin guys. how big are the loaches?

    intro

hello what kind of fish do you keep? how many tanks? give up the dirt lol welcome
  6. whats up dawg!!!! good to see you have joined the group. those pics are pretty nice. that bred pair you have looks better than the last time i saw them. your ob's are looking pretty sweet as well. good job my friend
  7. are you positive that its a dwarf clawed frog? i have seen african dwarf frogs in the store that are actually african clawed frogs. there is a very large difference in these species but when they are small they look very similar. an african dwarf frog stays small and will get along very well in a small community tank. african clawed frogs on the other hand get fairly large and like the taste of other fish. i hope that this may help. as to telling the difference when they are small im not to sure. if you see that its growing very quickly to a size that is disproportionate to your fish remove the frog or i can almost guarantee that you will be missing someof your smaller guys.
  8. bravo on a job Very well done. are you a cabinet maker by trade? that stand looks incredible. i cant see the canopy very well through th pics but it really does look very nice you should be proud of that, i know that sure would be thanks for sharing
  9. if you guys ever need any help and you i may be able to just ask. thanks again to everyone
  10. i would really like to thank all of you for your help. thanks to the information that i got with the article and the other posts WE were able to save my girl. i am really happy to report that she is eating very well (she love zuchini and veggies wafers. i ended up doing a very large water change twice as well as increased to filtration dramatically and she seems happy , her markings are very striking now and her tummy looks full. so in closing this site and the people on it are a great group and im proud to be a part in it. many many thanks
  11. i would tend to agree with jason. ottos are a fantastic addition to any plant tank in my opinion. they stay small, are affordable(3 or 4 bucks each if not cheaper) they dont mess around with anyone in my tanks except when the corys lay eggs, and best of all they are always working. if you have an established tank im very sure youll end up lovin em as much as i do. hope all goes well.
  12. i was very sorry to hear about your loss. i happen to have a couple of little guys that are in need of a home.they are about 1" to 1 1/2" kind of a mix of marble and koi(light on the koi) if you would like one i would be happy to see it go to a loving new home. let me know. all my best
  13. just a suggestion but i ALWAYS have sea chem product on hand. both prime for your water conditioner as well as stability for a bio booster. i use the stability when i introduce a new guy into the tanks as well. natures corner seems to have it quite often so if your in the neighborhood stop in and see henry or gillian. SEA CHEM PRODUCT ROCKS
  14. i checked on moving a 250g tank awhile ago and the only moving company that would even think about moving it was highland. the lady that i spoke with said 1000.00 just to get them out there and even more money for insurance. i tried dorcys piano movers as well and they said that they didnt have the manpower. i hope this helps.
  15. it really amazes me exactly how stupid we as a species can be. why in gods green earth would someone modify a handsome animal like a trout and make it look like its already been half stuffed. man o man that fish is 7 shades o UGLY lol
  16. you can order them regularly from spencer jack out of manitoba but as far as here in edmonton goes i havent seen them anywhere
  17. i will have to remember to bump for next time cause now im really kicking myself for not sticking around. the pleco i really wanted went for 30.00 (WOW) better luck next time.
  18. WOW!!!! thats pretty much all i can say. i met some pretty incredible people there. i was able to see some amazing specimens of any number of different breeds. i wasnt able to stick around for the whole auction but i am REALLY curious as to how much the L199 pleco went for? i wanted so badly to bid on him but my son was getting sick and the wife needed me so ...priorities. I would really like to thank ACE, raymond fong and fairdeal for all the contributions that they have made toward helping me with my tanks. You guys all really deserve some kudos. this was my first auction and i am really hoping to go to some more. it boggles my mind as to how many hardcore enthusiasts that there are around, and how readily they are willing to share information about the care and upkeep of the animals available. i met eveyone from breeders to a grandfather that was there to help out his grand kids with a tank and some fish. You guys really outdid yourselves this time. Bravo, keep up all the good work BryanCatfish
  19. hello and welcome. im new as well and all the folks that i have had contact with on this site have been friendly and very helpful. you definately picked the right community to join up with. glad to meet you BryanCatfish
  20. i will see what i can do. i will have to rearrange them a bit to make em look pretty again. i just got a couple of new additions that im trying for the first time.
  21. if you dose your tank with conditioning salt as well as turn up the temp yo about 81F as well as add air for extra oxygen it should help but it may hurt the plants a bit i really hope that things clear up best of luck boss
  22. if you squeeze the meat from a pea or 6 feed the tank those and it might work. ive done it a few times with different breeds of goldfish sometimes it worked and sometimes it didnt. dont feed him at the suface if you can fix yje problem and it shouldnt happen as often if ever again. i hope that this helps good luck
  23. that article has helped clarify i few things. its either an internal parasite or stress from the move or water quality. i want to do the water change even more now as she was wild caught.
  24. i spoke with the guy that i bought her from and he told me that he had her for 2 months and she was eating fine.he was feeding her zuchini and h2o wafers from NLS so imtrying some more of the veg as i dont have the h2o wafers yet. her tummy is so sunken in and she is very aggitated. im due for my weekly water change but im worried that its going to stress her out to much (but the tank needs the water changed or i run the risk of losing some of my other guys. any advise on this would be appreciated.
  25. hello all, the problem im having is that i cant seem to get my new watermelon pleco to eat. i purchased her about a week ago and i cant seem to get her to eat anything. i have alot of driftwood as well as rocks for hiding. she is about 7 or 8 inches long. i have tried everything that i know of to get her to eat (bloodworm, brine shrimp, zuchini. pleco logs. veggie wafers) and when she deficates its a long milky substance thats coming out(almost looks like wet cotton strands) i got her from a reputable dealer so im sure she was well looked after before i got her but im stumped so if anyone has an idea or two PLEASE drop me a line. the last thing i want is for her to pass away. thanks everyone Bryancatish
