I am new to the aqua-world and just wanted to give a big hello to y'all!

I want to jump in with both feet, but then i got water all over my living room, so I think I will wade in next time (lol),

if anyone has any bits of advice for a newby i'm all ears.

Cheers to you all!

I am a very newby, but am running a FW no real plants 20 galllon tank. I am so new, that my tank doesn't even have fish yet.

I went to Riverside to buy fish last night, and they talked my out of it, instead selling me a bunch of water conditioners and telling me to come back in a few days.

I really like the look of those Electric Blue Haps.

Not knowing much about fish compatabilities, i am just now reading and trying to learn somemore before I actually pick out fish.

Can anyone suggest some nice looking, halfway inexpensive, fish for a starter?

Should one bottom feeder be included for sure?

so far you are doing better then most :) Most buy a tank and fill it with tons of fish that all die in a couple days. You atleast knew enough to come and learn before jumping in :D I"d recommend you read up on the nitrogen cycle before adding any fish.

Electric blue haps( or any african from lake malawi) wont' work in a 20g. Some good beginner fish are the "community" type fish like platies, some tetras, zebra danios(these guys are one of the best starter fish). There is lots of choose from and selecting your fish is one of the most important things.

as a ex. petstore employee,

I LOVE this group :smokey: .

sounds great that you do research first  .

as for bottom feeder ,nothing for him to eat yet,

wait tell your cycled.[they need drift wood]

degrassi's write 20 gallon is limited to what will work.

what fish do you want, when everything is said & done? :)

One of my first fish were swordtails - easy to keep - they breed faster than rabbits and you get some cool behaviour out of them as well

Glad to see new people in the hobby....

here is a good link to an article on the nitrogen cycle - exactly what your tank is currently going through...

other great articles on that site as well...
