creekbottom
I notice you have a nano diffuser in the corner. Have you had any problems with it. Pressurized or DIY co2? My air pump won't even push air through the ceramic plate!
jeremoose
 Beautiful. Thanks a lot! I notice you have a nano diffuser in the corner. Have you had any problems with it. Pressurized or DIY co2? My air pump won't even push air through the ceramic plate! Actually the only problem I've had with it as that the suction cup won't stay suctioned. It releases an extremely tiny stream of bubbles, but the air IS travelling through.
jeremoose
Seeing a lot of greening (I think, I hope it's not in my head), I will post some update pictures tomorrow before I leave for the city. It'll be nice to have some objective viewpoints on whether or not my planted tank is making progress or not. Also, I've ordered a bunch of stuff to start our iwagumi tank (a VERY rough iwagumi tank), so I will be starting a build thread for that setup as well! Any thoughts on going with a 20g long (30x12x12) versus a 15g (24x12x12)? Like a fool I already ordered a 4 bulb 20" fixture, will that not work over the 20g long? Thoughts?? jeremoose
Update finally. Starting to see LOTS of sprouts: And the obligatory full tank shot: The water is a little stirred up from me doing a water change and mussing around with the plants and substrate but you get the idea! jeremoose
Here's something though: there seems to be a thin, clear film on the surface of the water. Checked all my levels (ammonia 0, nitrates 15ppm, nitrites 0 ppm, ph 7.2) and they're all good. Thoughts? epiphany
How much surface agitation do you have?
jeremoose
How much surface agitation do you have? A fair amount. I have an XP2's spray-bar pointed at a 45 degree angle to the surface. Do I need more? Possibly a powerhead?
jvision
It could very well be a skim of protein. Some people have used paper towel or newspaper to soak it up. If you're not planning on breeding fish in there or growing out juvies, then cut the feeding back to every other day.

jeremoose
Just as a quick update: I'd post some pictures here but I'm fighting some fierce green hair algae!
The_Little_One
How are you getting rid of it?
jeremoose
How are you getting rid of it? I got my hands on two Siamese Algae Eaters, increased the co2, double dosed Flourish, decreased the light period through the day and have been manually removing it by hand as well.
